Gill Bar

The Xá:y Syí:ts’emílep (Gill Bar) Restoration and Management Plan project is gathering the information needed to create a management plan for the area moving forward.

Over three years, the project will assess the impacts of recreational use on habitats, inventory species in the area, and consult with local knowledge keepers.

Hope Slough

‘Shxwlistexw te Sqwá:la Shxweli’ is an Indigenous-led slough restoration project started in 2023, which means “Care for the spirit of the Hope Slough” in Halq’emeylem. Focusing on improved flow through Sqwá:la; riparian area restoration; fish habitat restoration, and water quality testing.

We hope that their work can have a noticeable impact, and increase the number of fish returning to the urban waterway every year.
