Position Summary
Xwchíyò:m (Cheam First Nation) is looking for an Intensive Youth Support Worker to provide personalized one-on-one support to Cheam youth experiencing challenges at school, involvement with the courts, or at risk due to social, socio-economic, emotional, academic, family, or historical factors. This role focuses on assisting these youth in building positive community connections and fostering healthy functioning in their education, work, family, and community settings. The objective is to prevent involvement with the court system and, for those already engaged, to aid in complying with court orders. Services will be delivered in a manner that is culturally relevant and honours Indigenous traditions, values, and practices.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide one-on-one support to Cheam youth who are facing various challenges.
• Maintain detailed records of interactions and outcomes for reporting and evaluation purposes.
• Advocate on behalf of the youth to ensure they receive appropriate services and support.
• Offer direct support through mentoring and referral to professional services where necessary.
• Work closely with families, schools, community organizations, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to the youth’s support.
• Provide transportation to youths who missed the morning bus.
• Help support youth if they need help with setting up various professional appointments.
• Assist in planning recreation events for the youth, will collaborate with Cheam Recreation
• Promote and facilitate the youth’s voice in decision-making processes affecting their lives.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Experience working with Indigenous youth and families; working knowledge of Indigenous culture and History.
• Strong record, reporting, writing, time management, coordination, and ability to adapt.
• Broad understanding of principles of program development, including sub-fields such as community mobilization, food security, health and/or others.
• Excellent critical thinking skills and sound judgment. Proven willingness to make timely and sound decisions based on accurate judgment.
• Advanced computer literacy and skills in Excel, MS Word, Outlook, etc.
• Ability to maintain healthy working relationships with staff, community representatives/members and representatives of other organizations, including Collaboration with SASET, Xyolhemeylh, FNHA/Fraser Health. To help the client/ Community member.
• Ability to balance competing priorities, multitask, and work under pressure. The ability to work independently is required.
• Ability to be flexible and to work in an environment that applies cross-training within other Departments.
• Excellent interpersonal and listening skills. Ability to interact with all levels of staff in a professional manner.
• Ability to maintain Confidentiality guidelines of all records, materials and communications concerning clients, staff, and abide by Cheam First Nations’ Policies and Procedures.
• Knowledge, respect and understanding of Stó:lō culture, traditions and language is considered an asset.
