Developing a Land Use Plan is an important step towards greater self-determination and long-term planning for Cheam. It empowers our community to shape how our lands are used, protected, and developed in a way that reflects our values, priorities, and vision for the future.
This process is about building a clear, community-driven framework that supports responsible growth, cultural preservation, and sustainability to ensure that our lands continue to meet the needs of our members today and into the future.

NEXT STEPS
1. Member Feedback
An information package has been sent to all Cheam members via mail or email. This includes a letter from the Lands Committee, a copy of the Draft Land Use Plan, a Land Use Plan Summary, and Roadmap to Ratification sheet.
A detailed presentation on the Land Use Plan will be presented at the July 2nd Townhall meeting. We encourage all members to review the information package before the July Townhall so that all of your questions can be answered.

Feedback will be accepted until July 15th, 2025.
You can submit your comments via email to [email protected], or provide written feedback or request an in-person meeting if preferred. We want to ensure all members have a chance to participate.
2. Revision Period
The Draft Land Use Plan will be revised and updated based on the feedback from community.
3. Chief & Council Approval
The final Land Use Plan will be presented to Chief & Council for review and approval. This will also include approval of the Voting List, ballot question, ratification date etc.
4. Ratification Package Send-Out
Ratification packages will be provided to all members at least 30-days before voting day. This package will include a copy of the Final Land Use Plan, Notice of Ratification with date, time, location. Off-reserve members will also receive a voting ballot to provide their votes via mail.
5. Ratification Vote Day
Voting day! In-person voting with be held at the Band Office. Electronic voting will also be available through OneFeather. Mail-in votes must be received before this day to be valid.
