Xwchíyò:m (Cheam First Nation) is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive IT Support Specialist to assist with the day-to-day IT needs of the organization, support onboarding of new staff, and help streamline processes through automation and the efficient use of technology. This role is key to ensuring smooth technological integration in the workplace while empowering staff through effective training and tools.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
• Provide daily technical support for staff, including responding to IT tickets for hardware, software, access, and connectivity issues (ideally submitted directly by staff; may submit requests such as shared drive access).
• Set up and onboard new employees with the necessary equipment, accounts, and access to systems.
• Maintain and support network infrastructure, including Wi-Fi, printers, and office devices.
• Manage office phones: troubleshoot issues, coordinate with Rogers for service/support, set up new phones or make changes as requested, and maintain the staff office phone directory.
• Manage and maintain printers: troubleshoot issues, contact FVOS for support, coordinate changes, and maintain a printer asset list.
• Administer user accounts, permissions, email systems, and cloud tools such as Microsoft 365, Teams, and SharePoint.
• Remove users as requested by HR via MicroAge.
• Provide one-on-one and group training to staff on Microsoft 365 tools, including Teams and SharePoint, to enhance collaboration and productivity in the workplace.
• Provide general staff training and support.
• Support IT-related purchasing and coordinate with vendors for equipment, software, and service needs.
• Document IT processes, onboarding checklists, troubleshooting steps, and user guides for internal use.
• Monitor system performance and recommend upgrades or improvements as needed.
• Identify opportunities for automation of routine tasks using available tools or scripts.
• Assist with asset tracking, license renewals, and monthly reporting on IT activity.
• Draft policies and procedures related to IT usage, access, and support.
• Participate in cross-functional projects that support improved workflows and technology adoption.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Job Requirements
• Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience in IT support, systems administration, or technical help desk roles.
• Familiarity with automation tools like Power Automate or scripting (PowerShell, Bash).
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft 365 Fundamentals, CompTIA A+).
• Experience coordinating or supporting IT-related projects.
• Strong understanding of hardware, software, and cloud-based platforms.
• Experience setting up users and maintaining IT equipment inventory.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, and Windows OS.
• Comfortable training individuals and teams on software tools and best practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain technical topics clearly.
• Organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple tasks.
• Experience working in or with First Nations communities is an asset.
• Must maintain confidentiality and uphold Cheam First Nation’s policies and cultural values.
• Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License.
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (bondable).
Working Condition
• This role may require attendance at evening or weekend events.
• Occasional travel may be required for training or community engagements.
