Update on Provincial Flooding Warnings

Update on Provincial Flooding Warnings

August 1, 2024

Notice to Cheam Community Members:

Further to communications that were sent out last night from provincial agencies, we are not currently on an emergency alert/evacuation status. Cheam is working to take all necessary precautions in relation to the situation. The warnings are for areas above Hope Cheam staff are currently preparing for all outcomes that may arise from this flood. Our Emergency Planning staff members are organized related to this matter. They are in constant contact with Provincial officials and are on call 24/7 to meet the needs of our Cheam community.

As a precautionary measure, Community members are advised to stay away from all beaches in the area and avoid all boating. Even if there are no further issues with flooding in our area there is debris coming downriver, some of which is not visible above water.

If you want to assist in our current or future emergency planning or our Emergency Operations Centre please contact Debbie Douglas at (604)794-7924 or [email protected]. Please identify any previous training you have had, though it is not required to volunteer.
