Community Planning

Cheam First Nation is developing a Comprehensive Community Plan, which includes a Land Use Plan. In 2010 our community began exploring an investment checklist of policies and procedures necessary to display a certainty to partnerships and investments. Currently CFN is in year one of the checklist and working through the development of a number of policies, and procedures towards legal, political and administrative frameworks.

CFN is developing a 5 year Economic Development Plan and CFN is engaged in exploration with Kinder Morgan Canada, and BC Hydro, MFLNRO and BC Parks for economic opportunity and land stewardship initiatives. We currently have a band owned entity, Cheam Enterprises Incorporated, that is the conduit for the engagements with the industry partners mentioned above.

Our community is closer and more prepared to gaining entry into the Framework Agreement for FNLM than ever before.  In the last 6 months collaborations with Scowlitz's and Soowahlie's leadership has bolstered our self-assessment to accurately reflect the good work and capacity in our community.
